Biology 45Student Drop-In hours

Winter Quarter 2025

Also known as "office hours" these are the pre-scheduled times when I will be available to help you during the quarter.

If none of my scheduled student hours works with your schedule, I would be delighted to make an appointment in person or via zoom.  Please message me through the Canvas Inbox for a mutually agreeable time (some evening and weekends are possible with advance notice).

Communication Plan

IF none of these times works for you, PLEASE just let me know and we will find a mutually agreeable time to meet!

Ways to connect with me

  • My preferred communication method is via drop-in hours and via the Canvas Inbox.  The Canvas Inbox keeps all of my student related messages and inquiries in one place and ensuring they do not get lost in a sea of my other emails.
  • Responses to emails/inquiries will be made within 24 hours of receipt Monday-Friday and by Monday if received after 5 on Friday.
  • Drop-in Student Hours will be held both on campus in person and via zoom. Students should come to these to discuss content they need help with, to ask questions and even to just say hi. In addition, I strongly encourage you to make appointments as needed as my scheduled drop-in hours may not be convenient for you.  If I am available, I may even be able to meet in the evening or on the weekend.

Ways you will here from me:

  • Announcements will be sent out on Fridays that spell out what they should plan to accomplish over the following week and what is due. Additional announcements may be sent out as topics/broad questions come up and/or if there are relevant activities on campus or elsewhere that may be of interest and/or are relevant to the course
  • Reminders will be sent out on Fridays to students who have not yet submitted work through the Canvas Inbox. These messages are intended as gentle reminders that the due date is coming up and for you to reach out if you need any help.
  • My feedback on Assignments and discussions will be made via the Assignment Comments in Speed grader. I will provide specific and individualized feedback on discussion boards, application activities and topic reflections.  Feedback may be help with content, correcting misconceptions, links to related resources
  • Additional help: Finally, I will reach out to students who stop participating via email to check in to see if there is anything I can help with or let you know about campus resources for issues that are not related to my course (such as food insecurity or wellness help). I want to help you succeed in my course.
  • Grades:  All grades will be posted in the Canvas gradebook.
  • Course Notifications be sure that you set your notifications inks to an external site. for the course, so you don't miss out on an important message. I recommend at least receiving the announcements, grades, and Inbox messages (called “Conversation Message” in Canvas).
  • Please do not hesitate to reach out to me with any questions or concerns. I am here to help you succeed.
