Diverticulitis

Diverticulitis occurs when these pouches become inflamed or infected

This can happen if stool or bacteria get trapped inside the pouches,

leading to swelling, pain, and sometimes infection.

Risk factors include a low-fiber diet, lack of exercise, obesity, smoking, and certain medications like anti-inflammatory drugs.

Most people with diverticulosis do not have symptoms, but if diverticulitis develops, it can cause severe abdominal pain, fever, nausea, and changes in bowel habits.

In serious cases, it can lead to complications like abscesses, blockages, or even perforations in the intestine.

Eating a high-fiber diet, staying hydrated, and exercising regularly can help prevent diverticulosis and reduce the risk of developing diverticulitis.
